After putting up with a lot of corporate nonsense at a job that I worked at for years, I was ready for something else better in life. I wasn’t sure what the better choices in life would be at first. Then, a friend of mine surprised me by mentioning that she was going to be selling her cleaning company in Singapore because she was planning on retiring. I couldn’t believe the timing. I took some time to think about it, and then I called her one day to tell her that I was interested in purchasing the company if she could show me that the company was making a good profit.
I had never owned a company by myself before. I had always worked for other people and taken orders from them. Sure, I was a manager for many years, but that means there is always someone who works above you and you must take orders from them. I seemed to often work for tyrants and it stressed me out every single day. I had thought about running a business at random times, but I’d never taken the time to really think about what type of company it should be. I had always admired the company that my best friend ran for many years, though.
After spending a couple of days going over all the financial information with my best friend, I told her that I wanted to take a couple of days to think about whether I wanted to follow through with purchasing her company. After having a particularly bad day at work because my manager was angry and causing problems for me, I decided to quit that same day. I called my friend that night and told her that I was ready to buy her business. That was the start of a new life of happiness each day with my new company.
